What To Do In Tampere Finland
Tampere is a lively little city in the south of Finland some 100 miles northwest of Helsinki. It has a vibrant nightlife likely due to its high student population. If you are looking for live music and dancing, you have plenty to choose from. Check out one of the most popular nightspots, Onnela for varied music and dancing, or Tullikamari klubi, a popular live music venue featuring some of Finland’s biggest bands, or Hmeensilta for more traditional music and dancing.
If it’s good eats you’re after, Tampere has a plethora of restaurants in various European styles. Try Hella & Huone with its gourmet French menu, or Wistub Alsace specializing in authentic Alsatian cuisine or absorb the locale with the Viking theme and Norse food at Viikinkiravintola Harald.
Tampere also has an abundance of museums for the history buff. Check out the unique spy museum, Vakoilumuseo, with its histories of Finnish spies as well as international ones, and displays of secret agent gadgets. The Lenin Museum is another fascinating historical site if you have interest in the Soviet revolutionary. The Labour Museum, the Museum of Dolls & Costumes and the Rupriikki Media Museum are other options within the town.
If you’re more into the activity side of things, there are eight ice rinks in Tampere, walking and hiking trails on Pyynikki Ridge, guided fishing tours in nearby lakes and rivers, jet-ski and kayak rentals, indoor swimming pools and bike rentals. For more passive sightseeing, there are guided bus tours with narration in both Finnish and English. For about two hours, you can tour the main sights in the city. Lake cruises are also popular and the Tammerlines has one and a half hour or three and half hour cruises on Lake Pyhjrvi or return cruises to Nokia respectively.
